Artificial arrogance
When is AI not AI? What became of the digital nomad dream? And what happens when an entire nation decides it’s time to go? All that and more in this issue.

Using the Vale MCP server
Despite its early days, there’s something about MCP that really intrigues me. It puts the power of bringing data to LLMs in the hands of the data owner instead of AI companies. Well, in theory anyway. It also gives the potential to chain together interactions between different tools and services via AI. Anyway, all that aside, I have created an MCP server for Vale, which typically checks language for pre-defined regular expression patterns, but now, by feeding that into AI, can bring some context to the checks too.
Does this tool finally combine AI and interactive storytelling the right way?
There has been a promising use for AI in exploring creative storytelling, but until now, it’s generally only been realised in sub-optimal or spammy ways. Chosen Path aims to change this, putting the power of AI firmly in storytellers' hands.
Inside the collapse of Builder.ai: Was it even an AI company?
I feel like we’ve been reading “company that boasts clever AI was really just lots of poorly paid people” stories since long before the current AI wave, but it seems that people are as easy to connive and convince as ever when there’s enough charisma involved.
The First Planned Migration of an Entire Country Is Underway
Smaller nations, especially in the Pacific, have been bringing attention to the real effects of climate change, generally to deaf ears. Now, one of them is making real escape plans.
There's an arrogance to the way they move around the city: is it time for digital nomads like me to leave Lisbon?
I’d say that the vast majority of those of us who don’t really have any attachment to where we’re “from” have thought about living in Lisbon at some point. With generally good weather, good food, and an economy that needed stimulation, the Portuguese government created a golden visa to encourage digital nomads and workers. But sadly, that whole dream never really worked out for anyone, and now, even other nomads are noticing how unhelpful they are to the city.
